The Sol system (also simply known as the Solar system) is the most populous system in the Orion Arm and the star system of origin of humans. It was humanity's only home until the first extrasolar expansion in 2056 and the colonisation of Proxima. The Sol system remains the center of all trade and a major political influence in the Orion Arm.

Etymology

The name Sol is the Latin word for "sun". Sol was originally simply referred to as "the Sun", but as humanity expanded towards the stars, a more neutral name had to be chosen.
