Aldebaran III, sometimes simply referred to as Aldebaran, is the third planet from the star Aldebaran. It was first settled in 2101 by colonists aboard the Halcyon spaceship. However, the Halcyon became stranded due to a fuel shortage and thus, with no means to contact Earth, the passengers and crew have been left isolated ever since. With not enough budget to send a rescue mission, the Halcyon was presumed missing and everyone on board lost.
However, to this day descendants of the first settlers continue to inhabit the planet, surviving through the harsh environment and dangerous fauna and flora. The population has grown to around 38 thousand humans, organised in small settlements and communities around the planet, but mostly concentrated around Yemoja, the largest and first settled continent.
Etymology
Aldebaran III is named after its host star, Aldebaran. The name derives from the Arabic al Dabarān (الدبران), meaning 'the follower', because it seemed to follow the Pleiades from the perspective of Earth.
